i think i’ve said before that you can gauge my running by my blogging. so what does it mean that i’m making this post …. ? and that it’s so boring?
anyway, rather than recap the last month with witty entertaining minutia, here are some snippets from emails i’ve sent to friends who i’ve kept in the loop re: my progress.
Thursday, Oct 4:
haven’t dared run. I’ve been aqua jogging and it seems to be going well. i think i finally figured out how to work hard in the water and get my heart rate up, and the workouts feel pretty intense. my body feels somewhat like it does when i do the gzl workouts. one negative thing is my hip flexors are overly sore from all the high knee type movement. i’m spent at the end of each “interval”, so much so that a couple times in barton springs i worried about whether it is safe to do it alone in the dark in deep water. i’ve been going at 9pm since BS is
free after 9, it’s less crowded, a bit warmer outside and i can sleep in.
Sunday, Oct 7:
feels better. haven’t been to another doctor after the x-rays ruled out stress fracture.
Tuesday, Oct 9:
i ran yesterday for the first time. 30 minutes around a grassy soccer field about 9:30-10:00 pace. i was really paranoid and kept looking for any sign of something not right. everything seems to be ok, though i can’t believe how sore i am today. not in the injured spot, just in general in my legs. one thing about that aqua jogging is that it is doing a number on my hip flexors. i’ll try to run again tomorrow and re-evaluate.
Monday, Oct 15:
last week i ran 30 minutes m/w/f at about 9m-10m pace. leg seemed to hold up.
today i ran 40 minutes exactly, thought it would be about 4 miles, but google says 5 miles. i didn’t think i was running that “fast”, 8:00/m. heart rate on third loop was 143, the last loop was 149. not sure what that means or what “zone” that is. one website i look at says it’s in the “easy/recovery run”, but the effort seemed kind of hard.
Thursday, Oct 18:
i did another 5 miles yesterday, but too fast, like 38 minutes. my leg was hurting this morning. not painful, but noticeable. i hope it’s not one of those deals where unless i rest completely for 2 months with zero running, it’s going to never fully heal and keep bugging me.
Monday, Oct 22:
i ran 7 yesterday morning on lady bird in 53 minutes, which was a little too fast and too far. started off at 8:30 for the first couple of miles and had planned on only running 5 miles at most, but you know how it is on the trail with all the other runners and such. last mile was 7:20. i’m stupid. first time running on anything but soccer field grass. anyway, the injury is noticeable today.
i ended up running 20 miles last week on 4 days. i’m paranoid about not running fast and not running back to back days.
so there’s the incomplete update. but you get the idea.

Endeavoring to be more of a producer than a consumer, ran across Project Euler which looks to be low friction but somewhat useful and interesting. Unfortunately their register/login system is broken: Warning: mysql_num_rows(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource inĀ /home/admin/domains/projecteuler.net/public_html/includes/login_preprocess.php on lineĀ 11 So I’ll keep track on my own blog I guess [...]
Soldiering on with Aptana, fighting as I go, here’s how I was able to set up automatic synchronization between my project and a remote server accessed through a mounted/mapped drive. Set up your project Set up your remote preview server Set up an (S)FTP deployment connection, make sure you check “Automatically sync my changes” Go [...]
At work we are stuck with Subversion 1.4 clients (cough, Dreamweaver, ahem), so any new IDE I try has to use the SVN 1.4 api and format. Every 6 months or so I like to test drive IDEs, but most new editors and IDEs long ago gave up support for SVN 1.4 (except for PHPStorm, [...]
