Night before the Boston Marathon

One last quick post before the race. Laying in the hotel room after a long day of crazy travel yesterday and a nice day in Boston today. Did the crazy carb load thing this morning and felt ill but have recovered as expected. Probably on my feet a little too much today. Trying to stay calm and think good thoughts and remember all the hard work I've put in. Excited and anxious, eager and full of anticipation. Should be fun, should be hard, should be a great experience either way.

Looking back over my training, the workouts that stand out are the 24 miler, the 9x1000, the Meriden miles, the long runs trying to hang on to Mike and Pete. I feel like this taper has gone on forever and I've gained 20 pounds and lost all my fitness, but I try to banish all that fear, uncertainty and doubt. The 18 week training block has amounted to the following weekly mileage: 47, 59, 58, 72, 55, 66, 49, 43, 74, 61, 42, 73, 80, 72, 85, 73, 64, 51, 30. I think I cut back too soon, but that mostly couldn't be helped. Weekly average is about 62, so not as much as I (or you) probably thought, but it is what it is and it's in the bank.

The physical training is done, the mental race remains. Now is the time to run with patience the race that is set before me.
