Yeah, so my goal of blogging regularly didn’t last very long. Actually, I didn’t make any new year’s resolutions, just some vague nonsense about “taking it to the next level.” Whatever that means.
Perhaps I’ll have to shut this thing down. I mean if I don’t have the creativity to properly invest in it, what’s the point? It’s just a poorly updated, overly boring running log. Speaking of….
Sat. Dec. 30th: I nutted up for a 14 mile Mount Bonnell “resolution run” (so named by my running cadre in honor of the new year). Took off with a full gaggle of Gazelles, had some talk about this being the “longest run of my life”, felt great through most of it, and finished approximately 13.75 miles in about 1h40min. Moments: mile 2 was around 7.40 or so pat said; i felt like i powered up the hills, including Bonnell; had to pause at 35th and wait for the group because i had slipped out in front and didn’t know where to go; started running over the far side of Bonnell when I realized I didn’t need to do that for 14; stopped to tie my shoes near the Rock and when i stood back up i couldn’t feel my legs for the first few strides; last 2 miles were 6.30 and 6.37. I felt remarkably well the rest of the day and the next. Woo.
Mon. Jan 1: dunno, i think 4 around the hood.
Tues. Jan 2: unexpected job holiday due to President Ford, got to sleep in and went to the afternoon circuit. First circuit in a long, long while that didn’t maim or generally cause great pain. Had a lovely “long way home” run back with ssfletch and jorge. Also got to use fletch’s pole aftewards and it was surprisingly restorative. ;)
Wed Jan 3: i ate a sandwich. did you know 27% of female lottery winners hid their winning ticket in their bras? i probably ran 3 miles.
Thu. Jan 4: slept in again to avoid the rain that never came, ran with the afternoon crowd though i ended up running the 7 mile fartlek by myself. somehow i got stuck between the “fast group” who were doing 8 and “everyone else” who were doing 7, so i killed myself all by myself. did i mention i ran by myself? yeah, i haven’t hurt that bad in a long while. it was 1 on, 1 off and i did the 7 in 47.54. that doesn’t seem right, but there it is. i spent a lot of energy on the warm-up trying to catch up to the first group, which i never did, and i paid for it on the fartleks. i haven’t gotten a stitch/cramp in a long time, and i nearly just stopped somewhere on the north side, but i gutted it out. wasn’t fun, though it was enjoyable. huh?
Sat. Jan 6: decided to do the “MB” run again with the group. fell in with a little faster group than last time, think i led them on a wrong turn at one point, went out a little too fast over the first half, ended up paying for it at the end. nearly everyone was doing more than 14, so when we got to the top i pleaded, “is anyone turning around?” and only chris was. poor chris. he was slumming it with us (gilbert told him to slow it down and run with us), and he really had to keep it in check to let me run with him. when we got to o.henry middle school where the last water stop was supposed to be, there was no water stop. oh, i was heartbroken. i was struggling at that point. but then g-bone drove by near the randall’s and we were able to get a swig of sweet, nourishing gruel before continuing. at that point, chris said “see ya” and left me in my own putrescent suffering. i did 7.04 and 6.52 on the last 2 miles (chris said he was doing about 6.15), and it was incredibly hard to do that pace. overall though, at 1.38, this MB run was slightly faster than the previous week. but i was wiped out the rest of the day (whereas last week i actually felt rejuvenated).
so anyway, that’s it. sorry to have put you through this.
You are not allowed to ditch this blog. You have adoring fans.
Aren’t you supposed to do a hard long run and then easy and then hard. Two hards in a row might have helped you feel c-r-a-p-p-y during and after MB2. Oh, and that going faster part on MB2 contributes. Throw some cedar fever in there for good measure, too.
Dude, careful with the language. You did not use my pole, you used “the stick”, a massage tool. Although some have said that my pole is highly restorative, that is not a treat I am willing to share with you.
Best,
Fletch
Don’t quit. Your posts are worth the wait. Maybe we could nominate you for “Running Blogger of the Year” award for your efforts. The award announcement could read something like “Knob goes way beyond the simple, boring workout descriptions to delve into the inner darkness of doubt that haunts every runner and rewards us with great moments of glory available to those who strive to make themselves and the world better.” Seriously.
How can you quite your blog when its hands down the most interesting of all the gazelles. Also you killed it on the way up bonnell on saturday.
