Fartlek is my favorite workout, I didn’t want to miss it for some measly 2.5 mile race, but I guess class starts at 5:45am, not 6:00am. “Why are you always late?” Gilbert asked. Everyone but Gilbert and his fast group Gazelles were already gone when I walked up. He told me to cut across to the northside of the lake, head East and hook up with “your group”. I did just that and ran into them on their first fast leg of the 7 mile, 10 leg fartlek, doubing back and falling into the back of the pack. After the first few legs I moved to the front and felt great. The morning was refreshingly cool and crisp and we weren’t going too hard. But man was it dark. My legs buckled a couple times from unseen dips and dollops.
Errrrrr….. Boring.
A 48 minute run: 12 minute warm up and 36Â minutes of fartlek, probably about 6 miles total. Felt like I hadn’t done anything at all when I finished.
